Uasin Gishu County Kicks Off Handover of Key Water Supply Projects Under FLOCCA Program

Uasin Gishu County has made significant strides in improving water access, with the official handover of several vital water supply projects under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLOCCA) Program. These projects are set to enhance climate resilience and address the growing water needs for both domestic use and irrigation across various regions of the county.

The handover event was led by Mr. Christopher Mbevi, the Climate Change Unit In-Charge for Soy Sub-County, and marked the beginning of essential infrastructure developments aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. These initiatives are expected to benefit hundreds of households and contribute to the county's long-term climate resilience goals.

The first of these projects was the Kaptigin Water Project in the Kuinet/Kapsuswa ward. The project involves the installation of a 24-cubic-meter elevated steel water tank, sump desilting, and fencing around the facility. This upgrade will significantly increase water access for local households, while also offering sustainable irrigation solutions to nearby agricultural communities, supporting both domestic needs and food production.

Another notable handover took place in Ziwa ward with the Sachangwan Water Project. This project includes the construction of a 1.5-kilometer distribution pipeline from Sachangwan Primary School and the establishment of several communal water points. Serving over 400 households, this project will provide a reliable source of water to communities that have long struggled with access to clean water.

Meanwhile, the Koitoro Water Project in Moiben Sub-County was also officially launched. This project, attended by key local figures such as Sub-County Water Engineer Mr. Noah Kebenei, Ward Administrator Mr. Alex Kangogo, and Environment Officer Mr. Bill Matelong, features the construction of a sump tank, pump house, service pump, power system, and four communal water points. It also includes the rehabilitation of an existing ground masonry water tank and distribution lines. The project is expected to benefit over 300 households, including the nearby Koitoro Primary School, ensuring consistent water delivery to the region.

These key handovers mark a significant milestone for the FLOCCA program, which aims to address water access challenges in underserved areas. In total, these projects will provide clean, reliable water to more than 1,000 residents across the three wards, with a focus on improving domestic and agricultural water supply. The success of these initiatives is also aligned with the Governor’s manifesto under Nguzo number 7, which seeks to enhance agricultural productivity, improve living standards, and increase climate resilience.

Community members expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm during the handover ceremonies, recognizing the transformative impact of the program in Uasin Gishu. With these projects now in place, the county is on track to build a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for its residents.
