The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through its Department of Economic Planning, held an important meeting on Monday to outline the fiscal priorities and strategies for the upcoming year. Led by CPA Nathan Korir, the Chief Officer for Economic Planning, the session aimed to align the County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) with national economic policies and the unique needs of Uasin Gishu residents.
Korir highlighted the county’s impressive economic performance in 2023, reporting a 5.45% growth rate in the first half of the year, exceeding regional averages. He emphasized that maintaining this positive momentum would require prudent fiscal management and strategic planning. "Our goal is to ensure that the CFSP not only aligns with national objectives but also addresses the specific challenges and opportunities within Uasin Gishu," Korir said.
Economic Advisor Philip Melly offered a comprehensive analysis of the CFSP, describing it as a vital framework for sustainable economic growth and resilience. Melly underscored the need for strategic investments and policies that diversify the economy to safeguard against global uncertainties. “The CFSP is designed to foster a resilient economy capable of withstanding global challenges while ensuring inclusive growth,” he explained.
The economic planning team reaffirmed the county's commitment to sound fiscal management and sustainable development. The 2025 CFSP focuses on several key areas, including infrastructure development, agricultural innovation, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability, aiming to improve the quality of life for all residents.
The 2025 CFSP is expected to serve as a transformative document, guiding Uasin Gishu toward a future of sustained growth and enhanced living standards. By fostering collaboration between the government, private sector, and community stakeholders, Uasin Gishu hopes to create a robust economic framework that benefits everyone in the county.
