The media fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran journalist Njoroge Mwaura, who passed away on Monday at the age of 58. Mwaura, a respected reporter and former editor at The Daily Nation, died at a Nairobi hospital after a brief illness.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Njoroge Mwaura. He was a dedicated journalist, a loving husband, and an incredible father,” said his wife, Anne Mwaura, in a heartfelt statement.
Mwaura’s distinguished career spanned over three decades, during which he covered major political events and played a key role in shaping investigative journalism in Kenya. Known for his fearless reporting, colleagues remember him as a journalist who was relentless in his pursuit of the truth.
“He was a mentor to many of us. His passion for journalism and commitment to ethical reporting was unmatched,” said James Karanja, a senior editor at The Daily Nation.
Fellow journalist Caroline Nduta shared fond memories of Mwaura’s generosity and wisdom, recalling, “He always pushed us to dig deeper, to tell stories that mattered. Kenyan journalism has lost a giant.”
Mwaura’s influence extended beyond his reporting work, as he dedicated much of his time to training and mentoring young journalists. Through various workshops and mentorship programs, he helped shape the next generation of reporters.
As tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, industry leaders, and admirers, one thing is clear: Njoroge Mwaura’s contributions to Kenyan journalism will be felt for generations to come.
