The highly anticipated 6th edition of the Eldoret City Marathon was officially launched today at Rupa’s Mall in a ceremony presided over by Eng. Lucy Njoroge, the Uasin Gishu County CECM for Youth Affairs, Sports, ICT, and Innovation. The event also saw the participation of key figures, including Caleb Kositany, Chairman of the Kenya Airports Authority, as well as sponsors, partners, and last year’s champions, Emily Jepkemoi and Victor Kipchirchir.
The launch marked the beginning of what promises to be another thrilling edition of the marathon, which will take place on April 27, 2025, in Eldoret. Speaking at the event, race director Moses Tanui shared exciting news for this year’s edition, announcing that the Eldoret City Marathon will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Great Ethiopian Run, one of Africa’s premier running events. The partnership, set to be formalized on April 26, 2025, will bring greater international recognition to the marathon and create new opportunities for cross-border sporting collaboration.
“The signing of this MOU with the Great Ethiopian Run is a significant step forward in expanding the Eldoret City Marathon’s reach and impact," said Tanui. "We are excited to strengthen our ties with one of Africa's largest and most respected running events. This partnership will help elevate the profile of the marathon and attract more global participants.”
Tanui also confirmed that the prize money for this year’s race will remain unchanged, maintaining the competitive spirit and reward for top performers.
In addition to the announcements, it was revealed that online registration for the marathon will officially open tomorrow, March 8, 2025. Interested participants can register via the marathon’s official website, www.eldoretcitymarathon.co.ke. Details regarding physical registration points will be shared in the coming days.
The 6th edition of the Eldoret City Marathon is expected to attract a wide array of runners, both local and international, all eager to compete in one of Kenya’s premier marathon events. With the backing of key sponsors and a growing global reputation, the marathon is set to continue its legacy of excellence in sports and community development.
