Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe Assures Farmers of Timely Fertilizer Distribution to Meet High Demand

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Senator Mutahi Kagwe has assured Kenyan farmers that all logistical challenges regarding fertilizer distribution have been addressed. Speaking on the ongoing efforts to meet the high demand for fertilizer, CS Kagwe confirmed that starting Monday, March 24, 2025, over one million bags of fertilizer will be distributed across the country to stabilize supply and meet historical demand levels.

"We understand the urgency of ensuring our farmers have access to the fertilizer they need for this planting season. I want to assure all farmers that the logistical challenges have been resolved, and we are now well-positioned to meet the fertilizer demands," CS Kagwe stated.

To expedite the delivery process, the Ministry has implemented a more efficient supply chain system. Train wagons carrying fertilizer have already departed from the Mombasa port and are expected to reach the Naivasha inland port by Sunday morning, March 23, 2025. This rail system is expected to drastically reduce delays and ensure timely delivery of the much-needed fertilizer to farmers across the country.

Additionally, CS Kagwe announced that further supplies are on the way to reinforce the current stock. "An additional 1,380 tons of fertilizer are already enroute to the Mombasa port, ensuring that we maintain a steady supply to meet the ongoing demand," he added.

The Agriculture CS's remarks come as part of the government's ongoing efforts to support Kenya's agricultural sector, which is vital to the livelihoods of millions of citizens. The government's commitment to improving the availability of fertilizers is seen as a major step toward increasing food production and achieving greater food security in the country.

Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming fertilizer distribution, with more details on distribution points expected to be shared by the Ministry of Agriculture in the coming days.
