Boost in Wealth Creation as More Stakeholders Join County Agenda

In a bid to strengthen and operationalize the county’s agenda through wealth creation, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary Science, Fisheries, and Irrigation has developed strategic value chain roadmaps aimed at actualizing this vision. The strategies, which focus on both crop and livestock value chains, were presented to stakeholders to align efforts and foster collaboration.

The County Agriculture Sector Steering and Coordination Mechanism (CASSCOM), the body responsible for coordinating and steering the agricultural sector in counties, convened a meeting with stakeholders to bring them up to speed on the overall county agenda. The department unveiled 15 crop value chain strategies and 11 livestock value chain strategies as part of its roadmap for sustainable agricultural development.

Stakeholders at the meeting commended the department for its well-structured approach, stating that the roadmap provided a clear direction for their support and engagement. They identified their respective areas of strength and potential collaborations, urging the department to expedite the implementation process to actualize the vision effectively.

Among the stakeholders present were representatives from World Vision Kenya, Anglican Development Services - North Rift Region (ADS-NRR), Kentegra, Fresh Crop, Crop Soko, Cereal Growers Association (CGA), FiPS, Bayer East Africa, Tupande One Acre Fund, Farm Inputs Promotion - Africa, Equity Bank, Civil Society Organizations, HarvestPlus, the National Government Administration - County Commissioner, and the County Department of Trade.

The meeting was graced by the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation, Mr. Edwin Kibor. He was accompanied by Chief Officers Edwin Komen (Agriculture) and Robert Lagat (Livestock), along with department directors James Wekesa and Joseph Kiyeng, among other key staff members.

With an inclusive approach and multi-stakeholder involvement, the department aims to accelerate agricultural productivity, enhance value addition, and promote wealth creation for farmers and agribusiness players across the county. The commitment from both government and private sector partners signals a significant step forward in achieving the county’s long-term agricultural and economic goals.
