In a significant development for the University of Eldoret (UoE), the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba, officially launched the university's Strategic Plan for 2024-2029, signaling the institution's commitment to advancing academic excellence, strengthening research, enhancing industry collaborations, and embracing digital transformation.
During the unveiling ceremony, Hon. Ogamba underscored the strategic importance of the new plan, noting that it is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s broader agenda of reforming, transforming, and repositioning Kenya's educational landscape. He emphasized that the plan aims to establish UoE as an institution that not only thrives in an innovative environment but also plays a pivotal role in contributing to national development.
“The UoE Strategic Plan 2024-2029 is a blueprint for building an institution that will contribute to Kenya’s development through high-quality education, groundbreaking research, and close collaboration with industries,” said Hon. Ogamba. “This plan ensures the university is in line with the national transformation agenda, and it will play a key role in making Kenya globally competitive.”
The plan outlines several key objectives that will guide UoE's operations and development over the next five years. Among the highlighted priorities are:
1. Promoting Excellence in Teaching and Learning: Ensuring that UoE delivers high-quality education that meets global standards and prepares students for the challenges of the future.
2. Enhancing Student Experience and Personal Development: Focusing on the holistic development of students, providing them with opportunities to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
3. Enhancing Research and Innovation Capacity: Strengthening the university's capacity to conduct impactful research and foster innovation in key sectors.
4. Strengthening Stakeholder Relationships and Community Service: Building strong ties with industry, government, and the community to ensure that UoE’s activities remain relevant and contribute to societal progress.
5. Providing State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: Upgrading technological and physical infrastructure to create a conducive learning and working environment.
6. Promoting Employee Productivity and Sound Governance: Supporting staff development, enhancing institutional governance, and ensuring that the university operates efficiently and sustainably.
7. Ensuring Financial Sustainability: Promoting sound asset management and securing financial resources to support the university’s long-term goals.
Hon. Ogamba also highlighted that the launch of the 2024-2029 strategic plan represents a crucial milestone in the government's efforts to improve university education. He praised UoE for its proactive approach in addressing contemporary challenges in higher education, particularly by incorporating digital tools and innovation into teaching and learning practices.
“This plan is a direct response to the changing dynamics of higher education globally. The integration of technology and the focus on research and development will position UoE as a leader in academic and technological advancement, fostering global competitiveness,” he added.
The unveiling of this strategic plan is expected to bolster the university’s role in fostering innovation, driving research excellence, and enhancing the educational landscape in Kenya, aligning with the country's broader vision for national development and modernization of its educational institutions.
The strategic plan is also seen as a step forward in reinforcing Kenya's position as a regional leader in higher education. Through its implementation, UoE aims to produce highly skilled graduates, generate pioneering research, and support national and global development goals.
