The Uasin Gishu County Government has urged Cooperative Societies and SACCOS, beneficiaries of the county’s Enterprise Fund (CEDF), to promptly repay their loans in order to benefit other societies in need of financial assistance.
Kipleting Mengich, the Director for the Enterprise Fund, emphasized the importance of loan repayment to ensure the sustainability of the fund and the continued support of other societies within the region.
“These funds are intended to assist all societies that meet our loan requirements. It is crucial for the beneficiaries to settle their dues so that other entities can also benefit from the support,” Mengich said.
Mengich made the remarks while addressing committee members of the Kurur Cooperative Society during a meeting held on Tuesday in Ziwa. He was accompanied by Drucilla Cherogony, the County’s Cooperatives counterpart. The two stressed the importance of sound financial management and business advisory support, assuring members of continued guidance for growth and sustainability.
Kurur Cooperative Society has been one of the county's most successful societies, with notable achievements, including the supply of cereals to the World Food Program for the last seven years. The society has also diversified its operations, establishing a petrol station in Ziwa and venturing into the tea leaf business in partnership with a Kericho-based tea company.
“The packaging of our tea leaves in 50 and 100-gram packs is now ready for distribution and sale through our office,” said Emily Boit, the Chairlady of the society, highlighting their ongoing efforts to expand their business.
The county government’s call underscores the importance of financial discipline among cooperative societies and SACCOS, with the Enterprise Fund playing a pivotal role in fostering growth and development across Uasin Gishu County.
