Uasin Gishu County saw a momentous occasion as new leaders took their oaths of office in a ceremony that marked a significant step towards the region's growth and development. Governor H. E Dr. Jonathan Bii officiated the swearing-in of the newly appointed County Secretary Philip Melly, County Attorney Sylvester Metto, and Secretary of the Public Service Board Silas Rono, with promises of a united and efficient government underpinned by strong leadership.
In his speech, Governor Bii expressed his confidence in the capabilities and expertise of the new appointees, urging them to foster collaboration and teamwork within the county government. "Work with others to understand the staff, build strong relationships, and confront the issues facing the county. Only by working together as a family can we achieve the progress our people expect," the Governor stated. He emphasized that the alignment of every department’s efforts would be key to the county’s success, stressing that all sectors must work together toward a unified goal.
Governor Bii reaffirmed his commitment to the Nguzo Kumi promise, a guiding philosophy based on unity, hard work, and integrity, which he said would be the foundation of their collective service to the people. "Let us meet and exceed expectations, always acting with integrity in all our dealings," he said.
In a show of support, Deputy Governor H. E Evans Kapkea congratulated the newly appointed leaders, acknowledging their hard work and dedication that led to the appointments. "You have done a commendable job so far, and this appointment is a reflection of your dedication and hard work," Deputy Governor Kapkea said. He also emphasized the importance of aligning the county’s vision for future growth and ensuring that everyone works in unison for the prosperity of Uasin Gishu.
Following the swearing-in, newly appointed County Secretary Philip Melly shared his vision for the county's future, aligning it with the Nguzo Kumi philosophy. "Our vision is clear: to transform this county into a hub of progress and unity," Melly said. He highlighted the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) as a key roadmap for Uasin Gishu’s growth, stressing that it would serve as a blueprint to make informed decisions that address the needs of the people.
Melly also spoke about the importance of fostering teamwork among staff and adhering to set procedures, emphasizing transparency and accountability. "Every decision we make must be guided by fairness, transparency, and the best interests of the people we serve," Melly remarked. He committed to working closely with county advisors to ensure consistency in decision-making and to foster coordination between departments to ensure optimal service delivery.
The newly sworn-in leaders were ushered into office by presiding officials, including Judge Reuben Nyakundi, Chief Magistrate Dennis Likoyan, and Chief Registrar Hon. Carolyne Watima.
