In response to a flare-up of inter-communal violence at the Narok-Kisii border, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Kipchumba Murkomen, has taken swift action to restore peace and security in the region.
During his visit to the volatile border area last Friday, CS Murkomen directed the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, to immediately operationalize the Kiango Police Patrol Base. This move is aimed at enhancing security and ensuring law enforcement presence in the region, which has been affected by clashes between local communities.
“I have directed the operationalization of the Kiango Police Patrol Base to bolster security and maintain peace in this critical area,” CS Murkomen stated. "We must do everything in our power to restore stability and allow our people to live peacefully without fear."
Additionally, the CS instructed the Deputy County Commissioner of Transmara West Sub-County to ensure the area Chief operates directly from the Kiango market. This measure, designed to enhance administrative oversight, aims to strengthen governance in the area and better address the needs of the local population.
"I'm glad to report that, following these directives, police officers have already been posted to the Kiango Police Patrol Base, and the Chief has officially taken over the Chief's Office at Kiango market," CS Murkomen added.
These interventions come as part of the government’s continued commitment to ensuring normalcy returns to the region, enabling the local community to resume their daily activities without disruptions. Authorities have emphasized their readiness to handle any further security challenges that may arise in the area.
"The people of this region deserve to live in peace, and we will continue to work tirelessly until we achieve that goal," Murkomen affirmed.
The government has pledged to maintain close monitoring of the situation and ensure that the necessary resources are in place to prevent future incidents. The deployment of additional security personnel and the activation of administrative structures in the area are expected to contribute significantly to the restoration of order and security along the Narok-Kisii border.
