Uasin Gishu County Secretary, Philip Meli, recently convened a crucial meeting with Chief Officers and Directors from the Department of Public Service Management (PSM), Administration, and Devolved Units, where key issues regarding efficiency, professionalism, and good governance within the county’s public service sector were discussed.
During the meeting, Meli underscored the importance of punctuality in service delivery. He urged public officers to lead by example, ensuring they arrive on time for their duties. "Punctuality sets a professional tone and enhances the overall productivity and effectiveness of the departments," Meli stated.
The County Secretary also reminded the officials about the necessity of adhering strictly to the established code of conduct and professional standards. He emphasized that maintaining these standards is essential for upholding integrity and delivering high-quality services to the public, ensuring transparency in all activities.
In his address, Meli emphasized the need for public officers to implement work plans and maintain detailed documentation of their activities and programs. This, he said, would serve not only as a tool for accountability but also as a resource for evaluating the impact and success of various departmental projects.
Meli also tackled operational challenges, urging departments to address issues promptly and collaborate in finding swift solutions to ensure smooth service delivery. He highlighted the importance of efficient use of government assets like computers, fuel, and vehicles to promote accountability and maintain productivity.
In a bid to enhance inter-departmental coordination, Meli called for closer collaboration between the Directorate of Administration and Devolved Units. He noted that cohesive teamwork is essential for achieving the government’s development goals, particularly those outlined in the Nguzo Kumi Agenda.
Finally, Meli highlighted the significance of fostering a positive staff culture. He urged the Directorate of Public Service Management to take the lead in promoting values such as professional dress codes and the use of official language. According to Meli, these elements are vital for cultivating an environment of respect, professionalism, and accountability within the public service.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from the officials to implement the discussed recommendations, with a focus on improving public service delivery in Uasin Gishu County.
