CS Murkomen Announces New Command Center to Enhance Security in Kerio Valley

The government remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating banditry and ensuring lasting peace and prosperity in the Kerio Valley region. Two years into Operation Maliza Uhalifu, significant strides have been made, bringing stability to most areas of the valley, although some trouble spots remain.

Today, during a key security briefing in Kirimon, Laikipia County, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the opening of a second command center, a strategic move aimed at further bolstering operational efficiency in the fight against crime. The new command center, located in Kirimon, will oversee Samburu and Laikipia counties, along with select areas of Baringo, Marsabit, Meru, and Isiolo counties.

“This is a major step towards ensuring that the remaining pockets of insecurity in the region are addressed swiftly,” said CS Murkomen. “The new command center will improve coordination and enhance the reach of our operations, allowing us to tackle criminal activities with even greater precision and speed.”

The first command center, established in Chemolingot, Baringo County, will continue to serve as the operational base for Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Turkana counties. Both command centers fall under a unified operational structure to guarantee that security measures are applied comprehensively across the region.

CS Murkomen assured the public that the government remains resolute in neutralizing the remaining criminal hideouts in the region. “We are zeroing in on the few criminal strongholds that persist. We will continue to target the Mukogodo Forest in Laikipia County, which has unfortunately become a hotbed for criminal activity. With immediate effect, our operations will intensify in this and other disturbed areas to ensure peace and safety for all citizens.”

The CS emphasized the government’s determination to leave no room for criminals to terrorize communities or rob them of their livelihoods. “Our security forces are fully committed to bringing an end to this menace and restoring peace to every corner of this region.”

The announcement was made alongside top security officials, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Abdi Hassan, as well as senior commanders and top security officers from Samburu, Laikipia, Marsabit, Meru, and Isiolo counties.

“We will not rest until every community in the Kerio Valley region is free from the fear of banditry,” Murkomen concluded, reaffirming the government's unwavering resolve to protect all citizens and ensure sustained peace in the region.
