Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, today presided over the official unveiling of the Abogeta Sub-County Headquarters in Kanyakine, Meru County, marking a significant milestone in the county’s administrative and development agenda.
The event also saw the installation of the first-ever Deputy County Commissioner for Abogeta Sub-County, a move that is expected to enhance local governance and improve service delivery to residents. Hon. Murkomen emphasized that the new Sub-County Headquarters and the appointment of the Deputy County Commissioner would bring the government closer to the people, ensuring efficient administration and access to essential services.
“This is a key moment in the development of Meru County. The establishment of the Abogeta Sub-County Headquarters is a testament to our government's commitment to decentralizing services and making it easier for citizens to access essential services. The appointment of the Deputy County Commissioner will ensure that Abogeta enjoys better representation and governance,” said CS Murkomen during the unveiling ceremony.
The installation of the Deputy County Commissioner is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline local administration, ensure equitable distribution of resources, and strengthen national government structures at the grassroots level.
Following the unveiling, CS Murkomen proceeded to Uruku Prisons to assess the operations of the correctional facility. This visit is part of his broader initiative to evaluate and enhance the operations of correctional facilities across the country. During his visit, Murkomen highlighted the importance of continuous improvements in Kenya’s correctional systems, particularly in the areas of inmate rehabilitation, staff welfare, and infrastructure development.
“We are committed to transforming our correctional facilities into centers of rehabilitation and reform. Our aim is to not only ensure security but also provide inmates with the skills and support they need to reintegrate into society successfully,” Murkomen noted.
He added that efforts would continue to improve infrastructure, enhance vocational training, and ensure a humane and effective approach to rehabilitation within the country’s prison system.
Today’s events underline the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening local administration and improving the operations of public institutions, which are crucial for driving development, improving security, and promoting good governance at the local level.
