Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, EGH, today chaired a strategic meeting focused on forging partnerships for sustainable conservation financing. The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders, was aimed at exploring innovative financial tools to enhance the long-term impact of conservation initiatives in Kenya.
Discussions centered around a range of strategies designed to strengthen private sector involvement in conservation efforts. Key topics included the monetization of conservation benefits, ensuring a return on investment for conservation projects, and scaling solutions that create real value.
"Today’s discussions have emphasized the importance of creating sustainable financial models that benefit both nature and the economy," said CS Rebecca Miano. "We are looking at ways to not only protect our environment but also ensure that conservation efforts are viable and profitable for all stakeholders involved."
A major highlight of the meeting was the exploration of the role of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in modernizing conservation efforts. The group discussed how these technologies can enhance data-driven decision-making and improve the effectiveness of conservation initiatives.
Moreover, the meeting highlighted the importance of empowering youth in the conservation sector, with a focus on nature bond enterprises and supporting start-ups aimed at driving innovation in environmental sustainability.
In attendance were Principal Secretary Silvia Museiya, Ambassador Philip Thigo, Special Envoy on Technology at the Office of the President, Lucy Waruingi, Chairperson of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund, and representatives from KCB Bank Group.
The meeting underscored the critical need for collaborative efforts between government, private sector, and other stakeholders to secure the future of Kenya's wildlife and natural resources.
