The Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu, Evans Kapkea, officially launched the Revenue Sensitization and Social Health Authority (SHA) program in a bid to enhance tax compliance and drive sustainable revenue generation across the county. The flag-off ceremony took place at the county headquarters and attracted a diverse group of government officials, business leaders, and youth representatives, highlighting the county's commitment to promoting fiscal responsibility.
A key component of the initiative is the active participation of youth under the "Vijana ni Nguzo" movement, a youth-driven program designed to engage the community, particularly traders and entrepreneurs, on the significance of tax compliance. This movement will also focus on educating residents on how to register on platforms like Boma Yangu and SHA, promoting responsible revenue contribution for long-term development.
In his address during the event, Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea stressed the vital role of tax compliance in fostering economic growth and improving public services. "For our county to progress, we must ensure that every stakeholder understands the importance of tax compliance. Through this sensitization program, we are not only raising awareness but also empowering our youth to be agents of change," Kapkea remarked.
The Revenue Sensitization and SHA program will involve a series of outreach activities, including workshops and interactive forums, aimed at educating residents on tax policies, compliance procedures, and the benefits of timely tax remittance. The county government officials, together with members of the Vijana ni Nguzo movement, will engage directly with the public by visiting key business centers, marketplaces, and public gatherings throughout the county.
Business owners expressed their support for the program, recognizing the need for clearer communication and transparency in tax obligations. They welcomed the initiative as a means of bridging gaps between county revenue authorities and traders, facilitating a more collaborative approach to tax compliance.
Under the leadership of Governor H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii, the County Government of Uasin Gishu is committed to promoting youth empowerment and their involvement in government activities to create a self-sustaining economic framework that benefits all residents.
As the program begins, the county government and other stakeholders are optimistic that it will set a new benchmark for tax compliance, contributing to improved infrastructure, healthcare, education, and overall development in Uasin Gishu.
The program will make stops at several locations across the county, including Kuinet, Merewet, Kabenes, Nyalilbei, Ziwa, Moi’s Bridge, Matunda, Nangili, Baharini, Mailnne, Huruma, and the Central Business District (CBD).
