Maria Wangare Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge, the director of Trustpine Travel Agency, has been arraigned in court in connection with a fraudulent job placement scam that targeted Kenyan job seekers hoping to work in Mauritius.
The scam involved victims who paid between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placements in Mauritius, only to discover that the promised opportunities were nonexistent. Some victims even traveled to Mauritius, where they were left stranded at the airport without assistance and were ultimately deported back to Kenya.
Investigations have revealed that a total of 43 individuals sent a combined amount of Sh12.9 million to Kamunge, under the false pretense of securing employment abroad.
Kamunge appeared before the court on March 28, 2025, where she was presented for custodial orders and subsequently remanded at the Capital Hill Police Station as the investigation continues.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is urging any other individuals who may have fallen victim to this job scam to come forward and report the matter at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
The case is set for mention later today.
