Dr. Issack Noor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC), played a pivotal role in hosting a high-level government delegation on a familiarization tour of the Kenya Leather Park in Kinanie, Machakos County. The delegation, led by the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa, included Mr. Eliud Owalo, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Executive Office of the President, Performance and Delivery Management.
The visit aimed to assess the progress of the Kenya Leather Park, a flagship initiative designed to transform Kenya’s leather sector through value addition, increased exports, and job creation. Dr. Noor, alongside Mr. Richard Omelu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), welcomed the officials and guided them through key facilities and ongoing developments at the park.
Kenya Leather Park is envisioned as a game-changer for the country’s industrialization agenda. By providing modern infrastructure and support for leather processing, the park seeks to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s livestock sector while reducing reliance on raw hide exports. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to boost local manufacturing and position Kenya as a global leader in leather production.
During the tour, Dr. Noor, Eng. Mugaa, and Mr. Owalo engaged with industry stakeholders, discussing the project's milestones, challenges, and future opportunities. The government officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening the leather value chain through policy support, improved infrastructure, and enhanced water and sanitation systems crucial for industrial operations.
This visit underscores the government’s dedication to fostering industrial growth, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and ensuring Kenya’s leather industry remains competitive in global markets. With leaders like Dr. Noor at the helm, the Kenya Leather Park is set to play a transformative role in the country’s economic development.
