In a powerful statement today, human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich commended the recent political developments between President William Ruto and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, emphasizing the historic nature of their partnership in fostering unity and peace in Kenya. Ngetich, who is widely respected for his advocacy work on human rights and national cohesion, urged all Kenyans to rally behind the two leaders, recognizing their sacrifice and commitment to the prosperity of the nation.
In his address, Ngetich highlighted that the recent political events, which saw the two prominent leaders put aside their differences despite expectations of a fallout, serve as a testament to their commitment to Kenya’s future. He commended both leaders for demonstrating that "Kenya is bigger and more important than individuals" and for setting an example of how democracy should function—focused on unity, progress, and peace, regardless of election outcomes.
“The right honorable Prime Minister has shown leadership beyond all limits. His dedication to the democratic process and his call for national unity, even after failing to clinch the AUC seat, exemplifies the true spirit of leadership. It is clear that Kenya’s future should not be clouded by divisions but should be guided by the principles of peace and unity,” said Ngetich.
The activist also lauded President Ruto for his tireless efforts to ensure that all Kenyans, irrespective of their political affiliation, find space to live and thrive as one nation. "His Excellency the President has exhibited exceptional leadership, demonstrating that despite political differences, the pursuit of national harmony and prosperity remains paramount," Ngetich said.
Furthermore, Ngetich strongly denounced tribalism and political divisions that continue to plague the nation. He emphasized that the sacrifices made by both the President and the former Prime Minister must be respected and supported by all Kenyans. "The time for divisive rhetoric and tribal politics must end," Ngetich declared. "Those who continue to preach the 'us versus them' mentality must be rejected at all costs."
He also cautioned against the use of insults and disrespect toward leaders, stressing that Kenya’s democracy should not be used as a shield for abuse. “We must put an end to this culture of disrespect and insults. We cannot afford to raise a generation that disregards law, morality, and ethics. The law must be enforced against those who continue to degrade the reputation of our leaders,” he added.
Ngetich concluded by calling on both leaders to now focus on addressing critical national issues such as corruption, youth unemployment, inequality, and hate campaigns in the media. He urged the President and the former Prime Minister to work together beyond the 2027 elections to continue building a prosperous Kenya that serves the common good of all its citizens.
“This is their time,” Ngetich said. “Kenya is at a pivotal moment, and if the President and the former Prime Minister continue to work together in the spirit of unity, they will succeed in eliminating the political and social challenges that have held us back for so long.”
The human rights activist’s statement is a strong endorsement of the ongoing political partnership between President Ruto and Raila Odinga, which he believes could serve as a model for peace and unity in Africa.
As Kenya moves forward, Ngetich called on all Kenyans to support this historic initiative and embrace the values of patriotism, hard work, and selfless sacrifice for the collective good. “Let us all unite and make Kenya great again,” he concluded.
