Renowned human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing verbal attacks against President William Ruto by Apostle Michael Mband of the Lord Ministries Mwiki. In a statement issued on Sunday, Ngetich expressed deep concern over the preacher’s inflammatory remarks, which included calling President Ruto an "agent of the devil." Ngetich argued that such rhetoric is not only an insult to the president but also a direct affront to the people of Kenya and the first family.
"The utterance by this so-called man of God goes beyond criticism and enters the realm of personal attacks and hate speech. There is no true servant of God who can utter such words about the president and the people of his nation," Ngetich said. "This kind of rhetoric is more befitting of a deranged individual, not a clergy member entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the faithful."
According to Ngetich, the pastor's repeated attacks are fueled by tribalism and hate, both of which are detrimental to national unity. He stressed that the Bible teaches respect for those in authority, and no one, especially a religious leader, has the right to defy this principle.
"All leaders are appointed by God, and it is unacceptable for anyone to use the pulpit to promote such vile rhetoric," Ngetich continued. "The Bible calls for reconciliation and peaceful solutions, not division and hate. No one is above the law, and such behavior should be condemned by all true church and religious leaders."
Ngetich further pointed out that, while the country has witnessed corruption and immoral behavior from various public figures, Mband has not publicly called out or criticized those responsible, yet he continues to target the president with baseless accusations. This, Ngetich argued, is evidence of a deep-seated agenda against President Ruto and his leadership.
"Why has this pastor not denounced the corrupt figures in our society in the same manner he attacks the president? Why the selective outrage?" Ngetich questioned. "His focus on demonizing the president while ignoring other pressing issues in the country is a clear attempt to incite division and unrest."
The human rights activist also called on church leaders within the Lord Ministries to take immediate action and discipline Mband for his reckless and harmful words. He emphasized that the church must be held accountable for the actions of its leaders, especially when their conduct is damaging to the nation.
"It is crucial that the church takes responsibility for its leaders' actions. If a man of the cloth is attacking the head of state from the pulpit, what message is he sending to the church and, more importantly, to the youth of this nation?" Ngetich questioned.
Ngetich’s statement also expressed concern over the growing trend of religious figures undermining national unity in Kenya. He warned that if left unchecked, this dangerous behavior could spiral into a wider problem of disrespect and divisiveness in the country.
"Kenya cannot operate like a banana republic. This is a democratic nation, and there are boundaries when it comes to freedom of speech. Abuses and insults should not be disguised as constructive criticism," he said.
Finally, Ngetich called on law enforcement agencies, including the Attorney General, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), to investigate the matter and take swift action to ensure that the president is protected from such attacks.
"This behavior has persisted for far too long without any consequences. If the relevant authorities fail to act, they should be held accountable for allowing the country to slip into anarchy. The president is the symbol of national unity, and his rights, along with those of his family and supporters, must be safeguarded," Ngetich concluded.
As the controversy surrounding Apostle Michael Mband’s remarks continues to unfold, Kenyans are watching closely to see how the government and religious leaders respond to these latest developments.
