Eldowas Chairman Responds to Rumors of Contaminated Water: "It's Propaganda from Former MD

David Singoei, the chairman of Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company Limited (ELDOWAS), has addressed the ongoing rumors surrounding the quality of water supplied by the company, dismissing allegations of contamination as baseless and part of a smear campaign orchestrated by the company’s former Managing Director, Peter Biwott.

In a recent statement, Singoei clarified that the problems currently facing ELDOWAS have nothing to do with the company's operations, water quality, or the local government. “The issues we are experiencing today are a result of one person: Peter Biwott, the former Managing Director," he said. "During his tenure, he ran the company into the ground, dragging us from being one of the top water service providers in the country to a dismal 17th place, according to the latest WASREB (Water Services Regulatory Board) report.”

Singoei elaborated on the challenges faced during Biwott’s leadership, explaining that when it became clear his contract wouldn’t be renewed, Biwott began a campaign against the company and the county government. "Once he realized his contract was not going to be renewed, he resorted to fighting everyone, including the county government," Singoei stated. "On the day his contract ended, he went to court, but the case was rejected. Since then, he has been threatening board members, staff, and anyone associated with ELDOWAS."

Singoei pointed out that Biwott’s negative rhetoric about the company has been amplified on social media, where he has been using various platforms to spread misinformation about ELDOWAS, particularly with claims that the water being supplied is unsafe and causing illness. “These claims are not surprising,” said Singoei. “It's just the usual propaganda from Peter Biwott, alias Kiptilil. We’ve seen it all before.”

Singoei emphasized that ELDOWAS, under its current leadership, is fully committed to providing safe and clean water to the residents of Eldoret and the surrounding areas. He reassured the public that water quality is regularly monitored, and the company continues to adhere to the highest standards set by regulatory bodies.

“We understand that people are concerned about their health, and we take these concerns seriously. However, the allegations of contaminated water are completely unfounded,” he said. “ELDOWAS has undergone significant improvements, and the water we provide is safe for consumption.”

The chairman also called for unity and cooperation among all stakeholders, including the county government, staff, and the public, in addressing the challenges facing the water sector in Eldoret. “We are focused on moving the company forward, and we encourage everyone to focus on the positive steps we are taking to improve water services in Eldoret,” Singoei concluded.

He added that  People should test their water and are free to test it at Eldowas or any reputable lab for their own good health. "We are aware people use other sources of water eg boreholes etc."

As Eldowas continues its efforts to provide reliable water services, the public is urged to be cautious of misinformation circulating on social media and to trust the official communication from the company regarding water quality.
