Engineers Board of Kenya Hosts Breakfast Meeting with Consulting Engineers to Discuss Industry Advancements

The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), led by Chairman Eng. Erastus Mwongera, recently hosted a breakfast meeting with consulting engineers to explore ways to enhance the delivery of engineering services across the country. The discussions centered around the Board’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the built industry, focusing on key milestones and future initiatives.

One of the major highlights was the Board’s progress on acceding to the prestigious Washington Accord, an international agreement that recognizes the substantial equivalency of engineering education programs. This milestone is expected to elevate the country’s engineering standards on a global scale. In addition, the successful implementation of the East African Community (EAC) Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) was also discussed, which fosters regional collaboration and standardization of engineering practices.

Another significant development shared at the meeting was the recent launch of the Engineers Portal, a digital platform designed to streamline professional engagements, enhance communication, and improve service delivery within the engineering sector.

Looking ahead, the EBK revealed plans to establish two Centers of Excellence: the Kenya Academy of Engineering Technology and the Kenya School of Engineering. These institutions will play a pivotal role in advancing training and innovation, ensuring that Kenya remains at the forefront of engineering development. The centers are expected to equip engineers with the skills and knowledge required to meet evolving industry demands.

During the meeting, consulting engineers expressed their full support for the EBK’s initiatives, reaffirming their commitment to professionalism and excellence in the sector. The engagement underscored the collaborative efforts needed to build a robust engineering community in Kenya.

As part of its ongoing commitment to industry growth, the Engineers Board of Kenya will continue to engage stakeholders and promote the highest standards of professionalism, setting the stage for further advancements in the sector.
