The government has pledged to maintain the peace achieved through Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a security initiative that has significantly reduced cattle rustling and banditry in the Kerio Valley region. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, during his recent visit to Baringo County, commended the success of the operation, emphasizing its role in restoring order, reopening schools, and revitalizing local economies.
Murkomen reiterated that the government remains fully committed to securing the gains made thus far, ensuring residents continue to benefit from the peace dividends. “We are doing everything possible to protect the calm that has returned to the region so that residents can continue reaping the benefits of peace,” he stated.
The Cabinet Secretary also appealed to local leaders and residents to play an active role in maintaining security by fostering peace and reporting criminal activities. He underscored that eradicating banditry is a collective effort requiring the collaboration of all stakeholders.
Murkomen was accompanied by senior security officials, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, and Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Hassan Abdi, who were all part of the tour to assess the progress of the operation.
In a bid to ensure lasting peace, the government has reinforced security measures in the area by deploying specialized units such as the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU). These efforts are aimed at providing the region with the stability necessary for sustainable development.
