Government Takes Swift Action to Restore Peace Along Narok-Kisii Border

The government has acted quickly to restore peace along the Narok-Kisii border after inter-communal skirmishes erupted, threatening the security and stability of the area.

In response to the violence, additional security personnel were immediately deployed to the region, bringing the situation under control and ensuring that calm has returned. The government is committed to maintaining peace and fostering cohesion between all communities, seeing this as essential for both economic development and national stability.

This afternoon, Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kipchumba Murkomen, held a crucial meeting with leaders from both communities to discuss long-term solutions to the ongoing conflict. Following their discussions, it was agreed that two peace-building meetings will take place this Friday in the affected area as part of a broader effort to promote dialogue and reconciliation between the communities.

In a move to restore normalcy, Murkomen directed that schools and health centers, which had been temporarily closed due to security concerns, be reopened immediately. To further ensure the safety of residents, he confirmed that additional security measures would be put in place.

The CS also emphasized that security personnel on the ground had been instructed to apprehend anyone found carrying weapons or inciting violence. "We will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace of our communities," Murkomen stated.

Present at the meeting were several key political figures, including Members of Parliament Julius Sunkuli (Kilgoris), Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Rebecca Tonkei (Narok County Woman Rep), Alfah Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), and Gloria Orwoba (Nominated Senator). Their participation highlights the commitment of local leaders to resolving the crisis and ensuring the region remains peaceful.

The government has vowed to continue its efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the area, with a focus on collaboration between security forces and local communities.
