The long-awaited Maziwa ni School Fees initiative was successfully launched today at Tuiyo Secondary School grounds in Kapseret Sub County, marking a new dawn of opportunity and empowerment for families in Uasin Gishu County. The event was graced by the Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, who celebrated the innovative program aimed at addressing the perennial challenge of school fee payments.
For years, many parents across Uasin Gishu County have struggled with the burden of inconsistent incomes, making it nearly impossible to meet the rising costs of their children’s education. However, the Maziwa ni School Fees initiative brings a ray of hope to these families by offering a simple yet impactful solution. Through the initiative, parents can now pay for their children's school fees by contributing just two litres of milk through local cooperative societies. This approach not only provides a sustainable and community-based solution but also empowers local farmers and ensures that education remains accessible for all.
“This initiative is a game-changer for our county,” said Governor Jonathan Bii. “By allowing families to pay school fees through milk contributions, we are not only easing the financial strain on parents but also boosting our local dairy farmers’ productivity. This is a win-win for both our children and our agricultural sector.”
In addition to the Maziwa ni School Fees program, Governor Bii outlined further steps to ensure agricultural growth and productivity across the county. To enhance the dairy sector, the county government will be offering Artificial Insemination (AI) services to farmers in every ward. These services will provide the necessary support to increase milk yields and improve the overall productivity of local dairy farmers.
“The AI services and extension programs we are introducing will provide our farmers with the tools they need to enhance their dairy production,” Governor Bii added. “Through these initiatives, we will not only improve the livelihoods of our farmers but also contribute to the economic growth of the county.”
The launch of the Maziwa ni School Fees program marks a pivotal moment in the county’s journey towards sustainable development. Governor Bii emphasized that the success of the initiative will depend on the collective efforts of local communities, cooperative societies, and the county government working together towards a common goal.
The event also included a display of the innovative ways in which cooperative societies are mobilizing milk contributions from their members, with the aim of creating a seamless system for parents to pay school fees while simultaneously improving the livelihoods of farmers.
As the program gains momentum, the county government is committed to ensuring that every family in Uasin Gishu has access to the necessary resources to support their children’s education and foster a thriving agricultural economy. With the launch of the Maziwa ni School Fees initiative, a brighter and more prosperous future is now within reach for the residents of Uasin Gishu County.
