Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya visited the Pombo area in Bidii Ward and Tulwet in Waitaluk Ward, marking a significant step in the county’s ongoing effort to address hunger and promote food security. The visit was part of the ‘Fukuza Njaa’ initiative, which aims to alleviate food insecurity and ensure that all residents of Trans Nzoia, known as Kenya’s food basket, have access to sufficient and nutritious food.
Governor Natembeya’s visit to the two wards was focused on engaging with local communities and understanding their needs in the fight against hunger. The initiative, which has gained traction across the county, focuses on empowering farmers with resources, education, and support systems that will help increase agricultural productivity and reduce food shortages.
“Our mission with the ‘Fukuza Njaa’ initiative is clear: to fight hunger and ensure that every household in Trans Nzoia can produce enough food for themselves and contribute to the nation’s food security,” Governor Natembeya said during his visit. “As a county, we are committed to improving food production and providing the support our farmers need to thrive.”
During the visit, Governor Natembeya interacted with local farmers, discussing their challenges and exploring ways in which the county government can support sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative provides various forms of assistance, including access to high-quality seeds, modern farming tools, and training in best agricultural practices.
Governor Natembeya also took the opportunity to highlight the importance of investing in agricultural infrastructure, such as irrigation systems, to ensure that the county remains resilient to climate change and fluctuating weather patterns.
“We must ensure that our farmers have the resources and infrastructure they need to succeed, regardless of weather challenges. This initiative is just the beginning, and we are committed to continuously improving the livelihoods of our people,” he added.
The ‘Fukuza Njaa’ initiative aligns with the broader vision of Trans Nzoia County to maintain its status as a key player in Kenya’s agricultural sector. With a focus on sustainable farming and community engagement, the program aims to empower local communities to not only meet their own food needs but also contribute to the country’s overall agricultural output.
As the visit concluded, Governor Natembeya reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that hunger no longer remains a challenge for the people of Trans Nzoia. With continued support for farmers and the implementation of practical solutions, the ‘Fukuza Njaa’ initiative promises to be a transformative force in the fight against food insecurity in the region.
