Governor George Natembeya Urges Government Action for Sustainable Agriculture to Achieve Food Security

In a recent visit to Mitambo and Moi Farm in Waitaluk Ward, Governor George Natembeya has expressed his deep admiration for the hardworking and resilient farmers of Trans-Nzoia, acknowledging their essential role in feeding the nation for many years. The visit, part of the ongoing Fukuza Njaa initiative, highlighted the crucial need for more government support to bolster the agricultural sector in the region.

Governor Natembeya noted that despite the tireless efforts of local farmers, they have been operating without enough government support and resources to reach their full potential. “The farmers of Trans-Nzoia are the backbone of Kenya’s agricultural economy. However, they continue to face numerous challenges, from insufficient infrastructure to limited access to financing and modern farming technologies,” Governor Natembeya stated. “It is time for both our national and county governments to prioritize agriculture by allocating more resources to support our farmers."

During his visit, Governor Natembeya witnessed firsthand the dedication of local farmers working on their land, striving to improve crop yields and enhance the quality of their produce. He emphasized the importance of investing in sustainable agricultural practices to ensure long-term food security for Kenya and to improve the livelihoods of local communities.

“As a county, we must ensure that our farmers are equipped with the necessary tools, training, and support to succeed in a rapidly changing agricultural landscape. By adopting sustainable practices, we can not only boost our economy but also protect our natural resources for future generations,” the Governor continued.

Governor Natembeya called for a comprehensive approach to address the challenges faced by farmers in Trans-Nzoia, including increased funding for agriculture, better access to affordable credit, and investment in rural infrastructure. He also urged the national government to increase its commitment to agricultural policies that empower farmers and ensure food security for all Kenyans.

"The success of our agricultural sector is crucial to the future of our country. If we work together, we can strengthen the sector, uplift our farmers, and pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous Kenya," Governor Natembeya concluded.

The Fukuza Njaa initiative, launched to support food security and sustainable farming practices, remains a key focus for Trans-Nzoia County. Governor Natembeya’s call for increased government investment is expected to lead to discussions on policy changes and enhanced agricultural programs to support the hardworking farmers of Trans-Nzoia and across the country.
