Governor Lusaka Distributes Free Farm Inputs to 22,500 Vulnerable Farmers

Governor Kenneth Lusaka has officially launched the distribution of free fertilizer and maize seeds to 22,500 vulnerable farmers across the 45 wards of the county. The initiative, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and enhancing food security, was launched at Lungai Primary Grounds in Tongaren today.

During the launch, Governor Lusaka urged farmers to fully utilize the farm inputs to improve their yields and contribute to the county's food sustainability goals. “The success of this program depends on how well farmers utilize these inputs. We want to ensure food sustainability for our county,” said Lusaka.

As part of the initiative, each vetted farmer will receive 10kg of maize seeds and 50kg of fertilizer. These resources are intended to support small-scale farmers in the county and enhance their productivity, particularly in the face of ongoing challenges in the agriculture sector.

Governor Lusaka also appealed to the County Assembly to allocate more funding for the program in the upcoming financial year to expand its impact. "Currently, we are supporting 500 farmers per ward. With additional resources, we can increase this number to 700, ensuring more farmers benefit from the program," he added.

The distribution of free farm inputs is a key part of the county’s broader efforts to support its agricultural sector, particularly small-scale farmers who play a vital role in ensuring food security. By providing these essential resources, the program aims to strengthen local agriculture and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable farming communities.
