In a move aimed at improving agricultural services and support for farmers, Trans Nzoia County Governor Dr. George Natembeya today handed over 25 motorbikes to agricultural extension officers across all 25 wards in the county. The initiative is part of the county's ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity by improving the mobility and efficiency of extension officers.
Speaking during the handover, Governor Natembeya emphasized that the motorbikes would greatly enhance the officers' ability to reach more farmers in remote areas, ensuring that they receive timely support and services. The program is designed to facilitate the extension of expert advice, training, and guidance on modern farming practices, which will help increase productivity and improve livelihoods for the county’s farming communities.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that our farmers have access to the support they need, regardless of where they are located,” said Governor Natembeya. “With these motorbikes, our extension officers can now reach more farmers, deliver critical services, and provide technical guidance that will help improve food production and ultimately reduce poverty in our county.”
The distribution of motorbikes will enable the officers to provide vital services, including soil testing, pest management advice, and the introduction of new agricultural technologies to farmers. The Governor also noted that enhancing the mobility of agricultural officers was a key step in bridging the gap between farmers and expert agricultural knowledge.
Governor Natembeya reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of Trans Nzoia County, one of Kenya’s major food-producing regions.
“The success of our farmers is key to the success of our county. By ensuring that our agricultural extension officers can move efficiently and effectively, we are empowering our farmers to thrive,” he added.
The handover ceremony was attended by senior county officials, including the Agriculture and Livestock CECM Phanice Khatundi, and other key stakeholders. Governor Natembeya called on both farmers and extension officers to work together towards achieving food security and economic empowerment in Trans Nzoia.
