Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has strongly refuted claims that he was chased away from the home of the late Malava Member of Parliament (MP), Malulu Injendi, during a visit to pay his respects to the deceased’s family. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday when Natembeya visited the family in Malava, Kakamega County.
In a passionate response to the allegations, Governor Natembeya dismissed the reports as “desperate propaganda” aimed at tarnishing his image. He made it clear that no one could chase him away from his own home turf, emphasizing his strong ties to the region.
Speaking out on the matter, Natembeya took to social media, stating: “No one can chase me out of my own turf. Stop this desperate propaganda,” while specifically calling out media outlets NTV Kenya and TV 47 Kenya for perpetuating what he described as false narratives.
The controversy sparked after reports emerged suggesting that tensions arose during the visit, leading to Natembeya’s swift departure from the area. However, the governor’s statement has cast doubt on the accuracy of those claims, asserting that he was not forced to leave and that the situation was misrepresented.
“I went there to show respect to the family of the late MP Malulu Injendi, as is the right thing to do. Any suggestion that I was chased away is simply false and unfounded,” Natembeya said.
Political analysts are watching the situation closely, as this incident highlights the often volatile nature of local politics, where figures such as Natembeya, a former regional commissioner, continue to assert their authority in regions they hold strong ties to.
The late MP Malulu Injendi, a prominent political figure in Kakamega County, passed away recently, and his death has led to an outpouring of tributes from leaders across the political spectrum. The situation has also heightened tensions within the region’s political dynamics, with various leaders seeking to align themselves with the late MP’s legacy.
As of now, both NTV Kenya and TV 47 Kenya have not issued formal responses to Governor Natembeya’s comments, but the story continues to dominate local discourse as more details surrounding the alleged incident come to light.
Governor Natembeya, a rising figure in Trans-Nzoia politics, is currently focusing on his ongoing development agenda for the region. It remains to be seen whether this controversy will have any lasting impact on his political career or public image.
