Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) proudly played host to this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, held under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.” The event provided a crucial platform to champion gender equality, celebrate women’s achievements, and reaffirm the collective responsibility to empower women and girls across all sectors of society.
Among the distinguished guests gracing the occasion was Hon. Ann Wamuratha, the Kiambu County Woman Representative, whose commitment to uplifting women continues to inspire change. Other notable leaders in attendance included Prof. Victoria Ngumi, PhD, EBS (Vice Chancellor, JKUAT), Hon. Jane Kagiri, OGW (Laikipia County MP), Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, CBS (Ministry of Education), and Hon. Ann Kananu (former Nairobi County Acting Governor), among many other influential stakeholders.
The celebration was marked by engaging discussions, mentorship sessions, and empowerment initiatives, all aimed at fostering an inclusive society where women can access equal opportunities in education, leadership, and economic development. Speakers emphasized the urgent need to break systemic barriers and ensure that every girl and woman has the support and resources necessary to thrive.
As the event concluded, the message was clear: gender equality is not just a goal but a necessity for sustainable progress. The leaders in attendance pledged to continue advocating for policies and programs that uplift women, ensuring a future where all women and girls can fully realize their potential.
