Hon. Samuel Chepkong’a (Ainabkoi) and Hon. Robert Gichimu (Gichugu) have successfully retained their leadership positions as Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Delegated Legislation following their unopposed re-election today.
Both lawmakers, who have held these positions since the beginning of the 13th Parliament, were re-elected by the committee members, signaling their continued confidence and support from their colleagues.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Chepkong’a expressed heartfelt gratitude to the committee members for placing their trust in him for another term. He thanked his fellow members for their support and emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving the committee's objectives.
"I thank you for the faith you have shown in my leadership by entrusting me with yet another term as the chairperson of this esteemed committee. We have indeed supported one another, and I want us to continue with the same team spirit until we complete our terms as Members of the 13th Parliament," Hon. Chepkong’a said. He further reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively with all members to ensure the committee fulfills its mandate efficiently.
Hon. Gichimu also expressed his appreciation for the trust and confidence placed in him by his colleagues. He assured Hon. Chepkong’a of his full support and emphasized the significance of maintaining the teamwork that has been central to the committee's successes in previous sessions.
"Thank you for electing me as your committee Vice-Chairperson. I believe that if we continue with the kind of teamwork we have exhibited in the last two sessions, we will be able to deliver on our mandate," said Hon. Gichimu.
The committee members also congratulated the two leaders. Hon. Julius Sunkuli, speaking on behalf of the members, praised their unopposed re-election as a clear indication of the high regard in which they are held by their colleagues. He also acknowledged the cooperative spirit within the committee, which has transcended political differences.
"Your retaining your seats unopposed shows that members of this committee have a lot of confidence in your leadership. This just goes a long way to show that you have done a good job, and you should continue doing the same," said Hon. Sunkuli.
He further highlighted the harmonious working relationships among committee members, noting that their collaborative efforts have resulted in productive sessions despite differing political backgrounds.
"Under your leadership, friendship has thrived among members, regardless of our political affiliation. We have worked as comrades, and I have no doubt that we will accomplish much under your leadership and the friendship of your Vice-Chairperson," Hon. Sunkuli added.
With the re-election of Hon. Chepkong’a and Hon. Gichimu, the Committee on Delegated Legislation is set to continue its work under strong, unified leadership. Members of the committee are optimistic that they will carry on with their important work of overseeing and scrutinizing delegated legislation for the remainder of the current parliamentary term.
