Machakos County Woman Representative Hon. Joyce Kamene has reaffirmed her commitment to economic empowerment by issuing financial support to 33 women and bodaboda groups in Mavoko Sub-County. This initiative, funded through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), is aimed at strengthening grassroots enterprises, boosting financial independence, and creating sustainable livelihoods within the community.
The day’s activities saw Hon. Kamene traverse different locations in Mavoko to personally hand over the cheques and interact with the beneficiaries. The journey began at the Assistant Chief’s Office in Kyumbi, where the first group of recipients received their funding. She then proceeded to Moria Grounds in Kwamboo, where additional groups benefited from the initiative, before concluding the day at the Assistant Chief’s Office in Syokimau/Mlolongo Ward, ensuring that financial support was equitably distributed across the constituency.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Kamene urged them to invest the funds wisely, emphasizing the importance of value addition projects that can enhance their businesses, create employment opportunities, and ensure long-term sustainability. She stressed the need for entrepreneurial discipline, financial literacy, and innovation, encouraging the groups to engage in projects that drive growth, self-reliance, and economic transformation.
The Woman Representative reiterated that the NGAAF program is designed to uplift vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, by providing them with the necessary capital to expand their businesses, engage in productive activities, and build financial independence. She assured Machakos residents that her office remains committed to expanding financial inclusion and fostering economic opportunities across all sub-counties.
Many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the financial support, acknowledging that the funding will help them scale up their businesses, purchase essential equipment, and improve their operational capacity. Women’s groups engaged in agribusiness, tailoring, trade, and other small enterprises, as well as bodaboda operators seeking to expand their services, welcomed the initiative as a game-changer for their economic well-being.
Hon. Kamene’s initiative reflects her broader vision of empowering communities through inclusive economic policies and programs that drive self-sufficiency. By investing in women and youth-led initiatives, she is not only fostering economic independence but also contributing to the overall development of Machakos County.
Her message was clear: beneficiaries must use the funds responsibly, focus on long-term growth, and work collectively to build a prosperous community.
