Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today presided over a significant investiture ceremony for newly promoted senior officers of the National Police Service (NPS). The ceremony, which took place at the NPS Headquarters, Jogoo House ‘A’ in Nairobi, marked a moment of pride for the officers and the entire service.
The promotions, which were approved by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), saw 738 senior officers from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rise to higher ranks. The newly promoted officers were recognized for their exemplary service and dedication to upholding the law in various capacities within the NPS.
Noteworthy among those promoted were Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, who was elevated to Director of Human Capital Development in the NPS, and Mr. Mathew Kutoh, appointed Principal Assistant to the Inspector General (SAIG). Other key promotions included Captain James Kabo, now the Commandant of the National Police Service Airwing (SAIG), Mr. Sospeter Munyi, the new Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy-DCI (SAIG), Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, promoted to Director of Corporate Communication (AIG), and Mr. Edward Ochola, elevated to Chief Transport Officer-APS (AIG).
In his address to the officers, IG Kanja congratulated the newly promoted officers, expressing confidence in their ability to shoulder the increased responsibilities. "This promotion is not only a testament to your hard work and dedication but also a call to serve with renewed vigor and purpose," Kanja said. He emphasized the importance of aligning their efforts with the NPS Strategic Plan 2023–2027, urging them to work collectively to enhance service delivery and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the police service.
The IG also reassured the officers of his unwavering support and encouraged them to maintain focus, unity, and embrace new ideas to meet the evolving challenges of law enforcement. "As leaders, it is our duty to inspire and lead by example. Let us work together to create a safer, more secure environment for all Kenyans," Kanja remarked.
The ceremony was a momentous occasion for the officers, marking not only a personal achievement but also contributing to the continued strengthening of the NPS as it strives to fulfill its mission of safeguarding public security.
