Isaac Mutuma M'Ethingia was sworn in as the fourth Governor of Meru County on Monday, March 17, 2025, following the High Court's decision to uphold the impeachment of former Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Mwendantu Grounds at 10:20 a.m., attended by various dignitaries, including former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Cooperatives Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi, and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi
Mutuma, who previously served as deputy governor, assumed office after Justice Bahati Mwamuye ruled that Mwangaza's impeachment met constitutional requirements and dismissed her petition for lack of merit.
In his inaugural address, Governor Mutuma emphasized his commitment to restoring peace and cohesion in the county, acknowledging the divisions that had plagued Meru's leadership. citeturn0search1
Meanwhile, Mwangaza has moved to the Court of Appeal under a certificate of urgency, seeking to halt Mutuma’s swearing-in, arguing that the High Court ruling should be stayed until her appeal is heard and determined.
Mutuma's ascension marks a new chapter for Meru County, with leaders and residents expressing hope for unity and progress under his leadership.
