Hundreds of underprivileged students in Webuye West Constituency have received a significant boost after the Joseph Waswa Foundation unveiled a Ksh. 2.2 million bursary fund aimed at easing the financial burden of school fees.

The initiative, spearheaded by the foundation’s founder and director, Joseph Lendrix Waswa, has already benefited 800 students in its first phase.

Addressing parents, school administrators, and local leaders during the bursary disbursement event, Waswa reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring access to education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

"Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Through this initiative, we aim to support bright but needy students so they can secure a better future," he stated.

The bursary disbursement is the latest in a series of community-driven initiatives by the foundation. Earlier this week, Waswa distributed maize seeds to more than 8,000 households across Webuye West to enhance food security.

In a further show of commitment to social welfare, he also provided free sanitary pads to female students during the bursary distribution, ensuring that menstrual health challenges do not disrupt their education.

The gesture was widely lauded by parents and education stakeholders, who described it as a timely intervention in a region where many families struggle to meet basic needs.

Despite being a prospective parliamentary aspirant for Webuye West, Waswa distanced his humanitarian activities from political ambitions, emphasizing that his efforts are purely aimed at improving the lives of local residents.

"Our focus is on creating a lasting impact in the community. This is not about politics,it is about giving every child a fair chance at education," he affirmed.

The event was attended by national and county government officials, church leaders, school principals, and parents, all of whom commended the initiative.

With the first phase of the bursary successfully disbursed, the Joseph Waswa Foundation is expected to continue expanding its support programs, reinforcing education as a key pillar of community empowerment.
