Kaiboi National Polytechnic in Nandi County celebrated a historic achievement as it held its first-ever graduation ceremony, marking a momentous occasion in the institution's journey. A total of 1,614 graduates were conferred with their diplomas and certificates, a testament to the institution's growth and commitment to providing quality technical education. The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, government officials, educational leaders, and members of the local community, all of whom applauded the institution's progress since its elevation to national polytechnic status.

Institution’s Growth and Commitment to Education

Chief Principal Abdi Tiony, who has led the institution through this transformative period, spoke passionately about the significant strides made by Kaiboi National Polytechnic. He outlined the institution's growth over the years, which included modernization of its infrastructure, an increase in student enrollment, and a commitment to maintaining high educational standards. "Over the years, Kaiboi National Polytechnic has grown significantly. Our infrastructure has modernized, and our commitment to providing quality technical education has never been stronger. Our increasing enrollment is a testament to the trust and confidence students place in this institution,” Tiony stated.

Tiony emphasized that Kaiboi National Polytechnic is not just focused on academic excellence but also on developing well-rounded individuals. He pointed out that the institution’s graduates are equipped with practical skills that go beyond the classroom. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to ensure that our trainees receive a holistic education that goes beyond academics. Adoption of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET)

A key highlight of Kaiboi National Polytechnic’s success is its adoption of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), a modern approach that emphasizes the development of practical skills that are directly relevant to the job market. Tiony explained that CBET is central to the institution’s approach to technical education, ensuring that trainees gain hands-on experience and skills that are in demand across various industries. “Our dual training programs provide our trainees with real-world experience, making them well-prepared for the workforce,” he noted.

In line with this, the institution has embraced technological advancements and is now recognized as an ICT hub in Nandi County. This is largely due to the Jitume Initiative, which has positioned Kaiboi National Polytechnic at the forefront of innovation. Through this initiative, students are equipped with digital skills that are crucial for success in today’s technology-driven world. Tiony expressed pride in the institution’s role in equipping students with skills that will enable them to thrive in the digital age.

Support from Government and Stakeholders

The institution's remarkable progress has not gone unnoticed, with government officials and educational leaders offering their praise and support. Dr. Charles Koech, the Principal of Eldoret National Polytechnic and Chairman of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI), applauded Kaiboi National Polytechnic for its continued development. Dr. Koech, a staunch advocate for technical education, acknowledged the institution’s efforts in shaping students who are not only academically competent but also industry-ready. "TVET institutions are at the heart of skilling the youth, and their role in empowering young people, especially those not in employment, education, or training, cannot be overstated. I urge all TVET institutions to continue developing short, industry-specific courses that will better prepare the youth for the job market,” she said.

Dr. Muoria also reminded the graduates that the skills they have acquired are not only valuable within the local job market but also on the global stage.
