Deputy Governor Martin Mosisho of Kajiado County today hosted a distinguished delegation of government officials and representatives, including Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), and Regional Development, Beatrice Asukul, and Principal Secretary Kello Harsama. The group was joined by Members of Parliament Elijah Memusi (Central) and George Sunkuyia (West), as well as the China Ambassador's Representative, for a courtesy call at the Deputy Governor's office.
The delegation is currently in Kajiado County to officially launch and distribute emergency relief food in the region. The food aid will be dispatched to 23 counties across the country, in partnership with the Chinese Embassy. This effort is aimed at addressing the growing need for assistance in drought-affected areas and providing relief to vulnerable populations.
Deputy Governor Mosisho expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between various government departments and partners. He highlighted the crucial role of his Department of Emergency, led by Director James Larmoi, in coordinating relief efforts alongside the State Department of ASAL.
"Our collaboration with the State Department of ASAL and our partners, including the Chinese Embassy, is key to ensuring that we reach those in need across the country. Our shared goal is to improve livelihoods and ensure that no one is left behind during this challenging time," Mosisho stated.
Special recognition was given to the Chinese Embassy for their generous support in helping to fund and coordinate the food distribution initiative.
The relief food will be sent to communities severely affected by drought and food insecurity, providing much-needed support to vulnerable families across Kenya. This partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian challenges and improving resilience in affected areas.
