KALRO-Tea Research Institute Leads HPV Immunization Program for Students of Utafiti Comprehensive School

In a continued effort to support community health and well-being, the KALRO-Tea Research Institute (KALRO-TRI) took a significant step in advancing preventive healthcare by conducting an HPV (Human Papillomavirus) immunization program for learners at Utafiti Comprehensive School on 7th March 2025. This initiative was part of KALRO-TRI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, highlighting the institution's commitment to not only scientific research but also to the health and development of the communities it serves.

The immunization took place at the KALRO-TRI Dispensary, where eligible students received their HPV vaccines, which are crucial in preventing cervical cancer. This action is part of KALRO-TRI’s broader commitment to supporting preventive healthcare, especially in vulnerable populations such as the youth.

Utafiti Comprehensive School, a public institution sponsored by KALRO-TRI, serves as an educational home to many children of KALRO-TRI employees. The school prides itself on providing quality education and a nurturing environment that fosters both academic and personal growth for its students. Through this collaboration, KALRO-TRI continues to show its dedication to not only the professional success of its workers but also the health and future of their families.

Dr. Anne Njeru, the head of the KALRO-TRI Dispensary, expressed her enthusiasm about the initiative: "By providing the HPV vaccine to our young learners, we are helping ensure their long-term health and contributing to the fight against cervical cancer. It’s part of our broader mission to protect the well-being of the next generation."

Utafiti Comprehensive School’s Principal, Mr. Peter Kimani, also shared his appreciation for the initiative: "This immunization program is a perfect example of how KALRO-TRI goes beyond its role as an employer to directly impact the lives of the children in our community. We are grateful for this partnership, which reflects the values of care, responsibility, and forward-thinking that KALRO-TRI instills in its operations."

The HPV vaccine initiative is part of KALRO-TRI’s ongoing efforts to engage with and improve the community it serves. By providing these vital vaccines, KALRO-TRI is not only enhancing the health of its employees’ children but also contributing to the broader fight against cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women globally.

This initiative further reinforces Utafiti Comprehensive School’s role in empowering students and preparing them for success, both academically and in their health. With KALRO-TRI’s continued support, the school’s students are positioned to thrive in an environment that nurtures their growth while prioritizing their future well-being.

As part of its commitment to creating a healthier, more resilient community, KALRO-TRI hopes to continue launching similar health initiatives in the future, ensuring that preventive healthcare remains a key priority for all.
