The long-awaited Kapchepchai water project officially commenced in Cheptiret Ward, Uasin Gishu County, with overwhelming support from the local community. The project, aimed at providing clean and potable water to over 150 households, was launched by Uasin Gishu County Governor, H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, marking a significant step towards improving water access in the region.

A consultative meeting was held today between the community, project management committee, FLoCCA project committee, and county officials to discuss the project's progress and the importance of collaboration. The meeting, led by Cheptiret/Kipchamo Ward Administrator Ms. Mary Birgen, highlighted the critical role of local leadership and community engagement in ensuring the success of the project.

The Kapchepchai water project will feature a 10,000-litre water tank, a 1.5-kilometer distribution line, and a water kiosk to serve the local population. This initiative is part of Governor Bii’s broader efforts to improve access to water for both domestic and irrigation purposes, as outlined in his Nguzo Number 7 leadership manifesto.

Ms. Ann Chepkoech, the Climate Unit Officer for Kesses Sub-County, emphasized the importance of local ownership of the project, stating, "The Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program is focused on restoring water sources and making water accessible to our people. Once completed, this project will belong to you, and it’s essential that you take ownership from the start."

The project's contractor assured the community that work will proceed according to the established timeline and specifications, with no delays. Social Safeguards Officer Ms. Sally Sang praised the decision to employ local youth as laborers, noting that the involvement of the community in the process is crucial to the project's success. “We are seeing good progress. It’s important that everyone stays involved and addresses any grievances through the proper channels,” she added.

With the continued support of the residents and the commitment of county leadership, the Kapchepchai water project is set to provide lasting benefits to Cheptiret and its surrounding communities, improving both the quality of life and the local economy.
