Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has vehemently denied claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga orchestrated the impeachment plot against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as part of a scheme to undermine the unity between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities.
In a statement issued earlier today, Sudi dismissed the allegations as “false” and “misleading,” labeling them as part of a smear campaign meant to sow division within the government and tarnish Raila Odinga’s reputation.
The MP was responding to a viral claim that Raila, in his bid to disrupt the political alliance that brought President William Ruto to power, allegedly tricked ODM members into pursuing the impeachment of Gachagua. The claim also suggested that Raila’s emissaries, Senators Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, had met with key figures at Wamunyoro to strike a secretive deal.
“I want to make it clear that these claims are utterly baseless. Raila Odinga has always been an advocate for political stability in Kenya, and such allegations are simply designed to create unnecessary tension,” said Sudi. “There is no truth in the idea that ODM, under Raila's leadership, is trying to disrupt the unity that exists between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities. It is unfortunate that such a narrative is being peddled for political gain.”
Oscar Sudi further added that such divisive tactics would not succeed in the face of a united government committed to development and national progress. He also warned that those attempting to manipulate the narrative to drive wedges between the political factions should be held accountable.
The MP reiterated that ODM’s role in the government remains crucial and beneficial to Kenya’s unity and future. "We are focused on working together to move this country forward," Sudi stated. "The Broad-Based Government is here to stay, and no amount of political propaganda will break that unity."
ODM leaders, including Senators Sifuna and Owino, have yet to respond publicly to the allegations. However, sources within the party have dismissed the impeachment claims as part of ongoing political rhetoric aimed at destabilizing the ruling coalition.
The controversy over the alleged impeachment plot comes as political tensions continue to simmer in the country, with various factions jockeying for influence ahead of future elections. Political observers are watching closely to see how the claims will affect the delicate balance between Kenya's leading political parties.
