Former Nambale MP aspirant, Ken Okwara, has raised serious questions regarding the actions of the chairman of the budget committee, particularly concerning the allocation of funds to himself without the approval of other committee members. In a strongly-worded statement, Okwara questioned the integrity of the decision-making process within the committee, emphasizing that such actions should not go unchecked.
“Can the chairman of the budget committee allocate money to himself without the approval of the other members? Isn’t the decision of a committee supposed to be collective? This raises serious concerns,” Okwara said, while adding that the matter should not have escaped the Auditor General’s attention.
He called for a thorough investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds, urging that if there is any truth to the allegations, the person responsible should be held accountable in court or censured within Parliament.
“If guilty of misappropriation, why has no action been taken to charge him in court or to sanction him within Parliament?” Okwara asked. “It is crucial that those in positions of power are held to the highest standards of accountability. If we allow such actions to slide, we undermine the very fabric of our governance and integrity.”
In the same breath, Okwara went on to praise Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, the Member of Parliament for Kiharu, for his leadership and transparency. Okwara commended Nyoro for his actions and urged others to emulate his exemplary conduct. “Let Hon. Ndindi Nyoro be. The least you can do is emulate him,” Okwara remarked.
While his criticism was directed towards the actions of some politicians, Okwara also extended a lighter plea, jokingly suggesting that the people of Nambale would benefit from Nyoro’s leadership. "Can they loan him to us in Nambale for the remaining 2 years?" he quipped.
Okwara’s statements reflect a growing frustration among many citizens, who demand greater transparency and accountability from their leaders. His call for reform and ethical conduct in the management of public funds echoes a broader national conversation about the need for cleaner governance and better stewardship of taxpayer money.
As the debate continues, many will be watching to see how the relevant authorities respond to these serious concerns, and whether further action will be taken to ensure that such incidents of alleged misappropriation do not go unnoticed.
