Kenya and Japan Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Focus on Labor Mobility and Knowledge Transfer

 




Nairobi, Kenya – The Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Rose Njogu, met with His Excellency Hiroshi Matsuura, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya, today to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Japan. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, focused on enhancing labor mobility, fostering people-to-people relations, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge, skills, and technology between the two nations.


During the discussions, both parties expressed their mutual interest in expanding collaboration in areas of shared importance. Key topics included creating more opportunities for Kenyan and Japanese nationals by promoting skill development and knowledge transfer, particularly in sectors that can benefit both countries. The goal is to build deeper economic ties and provide a platform for both Kenyan and Japanese citizens to benefit from these exchanges.


“We are committed to advancing engagements in areas that will benefit both countries, including labor mobility and capacity building," said PS Rose Njogu. She highlighted the importance of creating sustainable opportunities for people in both Kenya and Japan through closer cooperation and partnerships.


The meeting reaffirmed the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Kenya and Japan and emphasized the two nations' dedication to building a sustainable and dynamic partnership for the future.


Also present at the meeting were Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Investments and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Irene Karari, Director and Head of Skills and Expertise, Ms. Ruth Kitonyi, Assistant Director of Skills and Expertise, as well as Ms. Velma Mudibo and Ms. Deborah Jemutai, Foreign Service Officers.


Both countries have long shared strong diplomatic ties, and this meeting further underscored their continued commitment to expanding collaboration in areas that promote economic growth, human development, and mutual prosperity.
