Border Management Secretariat (BMS) today received a significant donation of a patrol vehicle from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to bolster Kenya’s border security efforts. The handover ceremony, held at the BMS headquarters, was attended by key figures including the Chairperson of the Border Control and Operations Coordinating Committee (BCOCC), IOM’s Chief of Mission in Kenya, Ms. Dimanche Sharon, and BMS Secretary Mr. Kennedy Nyaiyo.
The patrol vehicle will enhance the BMS’s mobility, surveillance, and rapid response capabilities, significantly improving Kenya’s ability to monitor and secure its borders.
In his statement, Principal Secretary for Interior, Raymond Omolo, emphasized the importance of the donation, stating, “This patrol vehicle marks a critical step forward in strengthening our national security. It will enhance our ability to monitor our borders more effectively and respond to security threats swiftly. This contribution by the IOM highlights the importance of continued collaboration with international partners to ensure the safety of our borders and the smooth flow of legitimate trade and migration.”
Ms. Sharon also expressed IOM’s commitment to Kenya’s border security, adding, “We are pleased to support Kenya’s efforts to improve border management. This donation is part of our ongoing partnership to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration while fostering regional stability.”
The patrol vehicle will be deployed to high-priority border areas, allowing BMS personnel to respond quickly to emerging issues and improve border surveillance. The donation underscores the growing collaboration between Kenya and IOM in addressing challenges related to cross-border crime and irregular migration.
As Kenya continues to enhance its border management systems, the BCOCC, with support from both local and international partners, remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its borders.
