Kenya School of Government Seeks Partnership with Global Child Safety Institute to Combat Child Exploitation

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) is making significant strides toward establishing a partnership with the Global Child Safety Institute, an institute of the University of Edinburgh, to strengthen child protection efforts across Africa. This collaboration aims to create a Continental Centre of Excellence dedicated to combating child exploitation through data-driven strategies.

The new initiative will bring together national and international organizations, fostering a unified approach to addressing social issues affecting children across the continent. The platform will focus on collaborative training and research to equip stakeholders with the tools and knowledge needed to protect children from exploitation and other forms of abuse.

This afternoon, KSG's Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, welcomed a delegation that included Ismail Fahmy M. Shaiye, Head of Partnerships at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), alongside Kelvin Lay Mbe and Lydia Davenport from Childlight, for a constructive discussion about the ambitious continental platform.

“We are excited about the potential of this partnership to create a lasting impact on child protection in Africa,” said Prof. Nura Mohamed. “Through data-driven solutions and strategic collaboration, we aim to empower communities and organizations to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and harm.”

Also in attendance were Vera Obonyo, Deputy Director of eLearning & Development Institute at KSG, and Timothy Kisinga, Principal ICT Officer at KSG. The discussions highlighted the role of technology and data in shaping effective strategies for child protection.

This collaboration marks a critical step in addressing the complex and widespread issue of child exploitation in Africa, with the Continental Centre of Excellence expected to serve as a hub for research, training, and advocacy in the region.
