The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) and the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) convened a pivotal strategic meeting with staff from key parliamentary committees on Monday, March 17, 2025, as part of the ongoing Strengthening Parliamentary Leadership for Improved Health and Gender Outcomes (SPALTA) program.
The SPALTA program is a collaborative effort designed to equip parliamentarians with the necessary knowledge and skills to advocate for and implement gender-transformative policies aimed at improving health and gender outcomes across Kenya.
The meeting brought together staff members from influential parliamentary committees, including the Budget and Appropriations, Finance, Health, Social Protection, and Labour committees. These committees play a critical role in shaping policies that impact the country's health and gender landscape.
The primary goal of the strategic session was to strengthen the engagement roadmap, particularly in light of the recent restructuring of parliamentary committees. Organizers emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth coordination and progress in the implementation of the SPALTA program.
By focusing on capacity-building and fostering cross-committee collaboration, the meeting aimed to reinforce parliament's role in advancing gender equality and improving health outcomes for all Kenyans.
As Kenya continues its journey towards a more inclusive and equitable society, the KEWOPA and IPF partnership is poised to play a key role in driving legislative reforms that prioritize both gender and health.
The strategic discussions set the stage for continued collaboration in the months to come, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that legislative actions translate into tangible, positive changes in the lives of vulnerable populations.
