A delegation from Kiambu National Polytechnic, led by Deputy Principal (Administration), visited The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) on Friday, March 14, 2025, to benchmark on best management practices following their recent elevation to a National Polytechnic.
The visit was aimed at understanding effective leadership structures, governance, and administrative processes that have contributed to TENP’s success as one of Kenya’s leading TVET institutions. The benchmarking exercise focused on how top management operates, how academic programs are managed, and strategies for ensuring efficiency, quality education, and institutional growth.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly received by TENP Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, alongside Deputy Principal (Administration) Emmanuel Meres, Deputy Principal (Academics) Peninah Ogutu, and other senior staff members. The hosts took the visitors through an in-depth presentation on TENP’s management framework, strategic vision, and operational best practices that have enabled the institution to excel in technical and vocational training.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Koech welcomed the delegation and commended Kiambu National Polytechnic for taking the initiative to learn from well-established institutions as they transition into their new status. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among TVET institutions, noting that knowledge-sharing enhances the quality of education and institutional governance.
“As polytechnics, we play a crucial role in providing technical and vocational skills that drive Kenya’s economic growth. By sharing best practices, we strengthen not only our individual institutions but also the entire TVET sector,” said Dr. Koech.
The benchmarking exercise included interactive discussions, presentations, and facility tours, where the visiting team had the opportunity to observe academic departments, administrative offices, and student service units. Particular focus was given to resource management, staff development programs, curriculum implementation, student support systems, and industrial linkages that ensure graduates are well-prepared for the job market.
On their part, the Kiambu National Polytechnic team expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and the insightful sessions. Deputy Principal (Administration) from Kiambu National Polytechnic noted that the visit was instrumental in shaping their approach to management, especially in structuring leadership roles and aligning administrative functions to meet the demands of a National Polytechnic.
“We have learned a lot from TENP, and we are eager to implement these best practices at Kiambu National Polytechnic to enhance efficiency and service delivery. The exchange of ideas today will go a long way in improving how we manage academic programs, student affairs, and institutional governance,” he remarked.
Both institutions agreed to strengthen their collaboration through continued engagement, joint programs, and future exchange visits to further enrich their capacities in delivering quality technical education.
The visit marked a significant step in fostering peer learning and institutional networking within Kenya’s TVET sector, reinforcing the government’s agenda to enhance technical skills training and national development.
