Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has urged schools and educational leaders to prioritize Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to better prepare students for the emerging opportunities in the global economy. Speaking at the Kahuhia Girls High School Prize Giving Day, Nyoro underscored the significance of STEM subjects in equipping young people with the necessary skills to succeed in a rapidly advancing technological world.
Nyoro, who has been a vocal advocate for educational reform, emphasized that the future success of students and the country lies in embracing STEM fields, which are quickly becoming the driving force of the global economy. He spoke passionately about how the world is evolving and how critical it is for students to stay ahead of the curve.
“The world is changing fast, and the opportunities that lie ahead are rooted in STEM fields. As a country, we cannot afford to fall behind in this digital age. It is our responsibility to ensure that our young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills that will open doors to endless possibilities,” Nyoro said.

Nyoro called on the Ministry of Education to work closely with local leaders, educators, and parents to ensure the integration of STEM into school curriculums and to provide students with the tools they need to thrive in their future careers. He stressed that this focus on STEM would not only help students succeed but also contribute to the broader economic growth and development of the country.
The event also featured notable guest speakers who shared their thoughts and words of encouragement with the students. Peter Munga, Chairman of Equity Bank, urged the students to stay focused on their dreams and to pursue them relentlessly despite the challenges they might face. “Whatever dreams you have, no matter the obstacles or conditions around you, work to apply and implement them. The journey will not always be easy, but with hard work and dedication, you can make your dreams a reality,” Munga said.
Laban Ayiro, Vice Chancellor of Daystar University, took the opportunity to speak directly to parents in attendance, urging them to be open and honest with their children about life’s realities. “When you visit your children, come as you are. Don’t feel the need to impress them by applying for loans or pretending that everything is perfect. Teach them the truth about life, and remind them that hard work will be their greatest asset. Many parents mislead their children by giving them an impression that is not genuine. We need to help our children understand the reality of life,” Ayiro advised.
Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina also addressed the students, offering valuable advice on the importance of character. “Your character will transcend your certificate. Do not compromise who you are, and know that God has given you a unique gift that only you can fulfill. You don’t need to imitate others. Stay true to yourself and trust in your abilities,” Maina told the students.
