The CEO of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), Dr. Alice Kande, paid a significant visit to the M-PESA Foundation Academy today, where she emphasized the importance of pre-career skills, Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), and the development of well-rounded individuals in the educational system. Dr. Kande’s visit was marked by a parade inspection and engaging discussions on how to integrate extracurricular activities with academic pursuits for the holistic development of students.
During her visit, Dr. Kande highlighted the crucial role of stakeholders in promoting lifelong learning in alignment with the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF), which aims to ensure that educational achievements are well-structured and recognized both locally and internationally. She stressed the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, the government, and other stakeholders to create pathways that allow for the continuous development of individuals at every stage of their careers.
"The success of our education system lies in our ability to equip young people with not only academic knowledge but also pre-career skills that are necessary for thriving in the workforce and contributing meaningfully to society," Dr. Kande said. "The Kenya National Qualifications Framework is a tool that will help us ensure that students are not only prepared for the future but are also able to seamlessly progress through their education and into successful careers."
Dr. Kande also took the opportunity to discuss the upcoming implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which seeks to ensure that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the 21st century through a more hands-on and skills-focused approach to learning. She emphasized the need for aligning CBC with ongoing national education reforms, reinforcing that these changes are critical for the advancement of the nation’s educational objectives.
In addition to the academic discussions, Dr. Kande visited various facilities at the M-PESA Foundation Academy, engaging with students and faculty members on their experiences with both academic and extracurricular activities. She underscored the importance of extracurricular engagement in helping students discover their passions, talents, and leadership abilities, which contribute significantly to their personal growth and success.
The visit concluded with an affirmation of the KNQA’s ongoing partnership with M-PESA Foundation Academy and the collective efforts to ensure that Kenya’s education system continues to evolve in line with global standards and the needs of its diverse learners.
