By John Kariuki

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), led by the Director of Urban Roads Planning & Design (URPD), Eng. Oginga, convened key stakeholders today at the Ole Sereni Hotel, Nairobi, for the ongoing Draft Tolling Policy Validation Workshop. The event provided a crucial platform for stakeholders to review, seek clarifications, and offer input on the proposed tolling framework ahead of its submission for Cabinet approval.

The workshop, aimed at refining the tolling policy to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability, brought together experts from the transport sector, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders. The Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, attended as the chief guest, emphasizing the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and sustainable financing through tolling mechanisms.

Speaking at the event, Eng. Oginga underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement in shaping a policy that aligns with Kenya’s infrastructure development goals while balancing the needs of road users. He noted that the validation workshop was a key step in ensuring transparency and inclusivity in the policy-making process.

With the growing demand for efficient road networks and sustainable funding solutions, the Draft Tolling Policy seeks to introduce structured tolling systems that will enhance road maintenance and development. Once finalized, the policy will be presented for Cabinet approval, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to modernize its road infrastructure.

KURA remains committed to fostering collaboration and innovation in urban road planning to support the country's economic growth and development.
