Limuru MP Eng. Kiragu Chege Condemns Attack on Traders, Calls for Justice

Limuru Member of Parliament, Hon. Eng. Kiragu Chege, has strongly condemned the violent attack on local traders during a meeting held on 20th March 2025 at the Metropolitan Grounds in Limuru. Speaking after a follow-up meeting with a section of the affected traders at Terracotta Restaurant this morning, the MP expressed deep concern over the shocking events that unfolded.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that a group of hired goons disrupted the peaceful gathering, resorting to violence and intimidation that endangered the safety of traders and attendees. In a particularly vile act, the attackers smeared traders, their equipment, and vehicles with a disgusting mixture of old engine oil and sewage. The violence escalated as chairs were hurled in all directions, creating chaos and causing injuries among those present.

Hon. Kiragu Chege assured the traders of his unwavering support and vowed to pursue justice for those affected. He emphasized that the traders of Limuru have a constitutional right to voice their concerns over the exorbitant and unjustified licence fees imposed by the Kiambu County Government. Despite previous assurances from the county administration to reduce these fees, no action has been taken, leaving traders burdened and frustrated.

"I want to send a clear and firm message to those behind these heinous acts: the traders of Limuru will not be intimidated. Their demand for fairness is justified, and they deserve to be heard," said Hon. Kiragu.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with traders and local stakeholders to ensure that the county government addresses their grievances. He insisted that a fair and reasonable compromise on licence fees must be reached to protect the livelihoods of hardworking traders who contribute significantly to the local economy.

Hon. Kiragu also called for unity among Limuru residents in condemning such acts of violence and intimidation. "We must stand together to safeguard the rights of our traders and ensure they can operate in a safe and conducive business environment," he stated.

As he concluded his statement, the MP urged the relevant authorities to take swift action against those responsible for the attack and ensure justice is served. He reiterated his dedication to advocating for policies that promote economic fairness and empower small-scale traders in Limuru.

"Let us stand united against violence and injustice. The traders of Limuru will not walk this path alone—I will stand with them until their voices are heard and their rights respected," he affirmed.
